課程概述

This integrated language course aims to enhance students’ English proficiency at the high-intermediate level. The course is also intended to develop in the students an interest in learning English and a more thorough understanding of the English and American culture, as well as to improve students’ critical thinking and presentation skills. Students will be introduced to social and cultural topics that are relevant to college life, including entertainment, education, pop culture, technology, career, etc.
The course will balance lectures with various classroom activities involving four skills (reading, listening, writing, and speaking). These learning activities include group discussion and oral presentation, Q and A, film viewing and critique, performance, and language games. Frequent writing exercises are designed to relate the course material to the students’ own life experience.
In addition to sharpening the students’ English skills, after taking this course, students are expected to become critical readers and thinkers, clear communicators in multiple contexts, and active analysts of contemporary cultures.
This class will be taught mainly in English. You are encouraged to interact with your instructor and TA in English.
(Please be advised that the syllabus is subject to change. The final version will be distributed in the first class.)
